Periodontal Treatment St. Louis, MO &
Florissant, MO
Periodontal health is paramount for oral and overall
health. Research
shows a link between periodontal disease and increased risk for
cardiovascular disease, pregnancy complications, and other systemic
health conditions.
Periodontal disease, often called gum disease,
results from a buildup of plaque at and below the gum line. The
plaque hardens into tartar, inflames the gums, and promotes ongoing
soft tissue infection. Periodontal diseases attack in the sulcus,
a v-shaped crevice that lies between the tooth and gum. This causes
supporting tissue to weaken and will cause the loss of teeth eventually.
This can be easily prevented in almost all patients.
Dr. Quade and Dr. First offer a complete periodontal
program. Our hygienists routinely perform a full-mouth exam and
digital charting, along with a professional cleaning. If signs of
periodontal disease are noted, we initiate a treatment plan that
may include root planing, scaling, and/or antibiotic treatment with
Arestin.
Left untreated, periodontal disease advances to
cause tooth, gum, and bone loss. Periodontal disease is found in
over 80 percent of the US population, and it’s the leading
cause of tooth loss for American adults. Comprehensive periodontal
exams and therapy, when needed, are vitally important to your oral
health, overall health of your body, and quality of life.
